The email was not perfect.

Within two weeks, three hotel directors resigned. A regional operations chief was removed. Two sealed settlements were reopened. Break policies changed. Staffing levels were reviewed by people who had actually worked the floors.

And Elena Morales was found in Arizona, living with her daughter outside Phoenix.

Nathan flew there himself.

No cameras.

No speechwriter.

He took a small box of cinnamon candies because he remembered.

When Elena opened the door and saw him, she covered her mouth with both hands. Nathan called me afterward from the parking lot of a drugstore near her house. For almost a minute, he could not speak.
